So…what EXACTLY is the Quest Adventure Society?

The QAS is adventurously unique in that it’s both real…and, well…not. It’s an ever growing community with lofty goals to touch every continent on the planet. Members will be able to interact and take advantage of a huge variety of resources as we all take steps to put down our screens and find the real adventure that’s already in the world around us.

So, what’s the ‘not’ real part?

Well, although all of our ACTIONS are real, the history, structure, leadership and much of the ongoing stories are not (at least not initially.) You see, the QAS began as a fictitious organization from an expanding video series entitled “Keeping Up With Quinn.” The creator of the series, Joe Dean, had so much fun creating the video series that he thought “Why can’t there be a QAS in real life?” So, after 30+ years of professionally designing live themed adventures through his event/game design company, he set out to do just that.

One loose way to explain it is to consider what if Hogwarts was real? Keep the story, lore and all the other fictional elements…but begin offering assignments and resources for those that would like to ‘enroll’ in the real world. Only the QAS is focused on adventure instead of magic. Instead of a school, it’s a society with specialty assignments and trainings. We think you get the idea!

At the moment the QAS is not quite up for new membership as there are a few more ‘nuts and bolts’ to finish before we’re ready. For now, you can join our FREE Substack weekly newsletter! Future announcements will be given through that free email notification. Additionally, you’ll find free links to our Adventure Compass inside (a fully developed assessment that will determine which of the 11 adventure types best represents you!)

Below is a very brief origin back story of the Quest Adventure Society that will also introduce some of it’s main players…as well as introduce its potential threats and even enemies.

HISTORY OF THE QAS

The QAS was born around a campfire in the middle of the Colorado Rocky Mountains in the Summer of 2005. Five friends, Jake, Quinn, Eli, Kirk and Andy, all from varying backgrounds, had just finished three full days of hiking and camping and excitedly talked about every adventurous moment of their trek. Although none of them were extreme outdoors men at the time, that night they developed a united conviction that the experiences they were having were immeasurably better than any cinematic cut scene in a video game or movie could offer. To breathe the air and touch the trees and rocks – the experience was irreplaceable.

The five of them made a pact that night – to hold each other accountable to never forget that conviction. Over the next few years, they took many other trips together and that group of five slowly grew. It turned out that the more they shared about what they were doing, the more others were inspired to join them.

It was Jake, probably because of his profession as an adventure designer, that initiated the idea that adventure was typically a lot more fun when there was a back story involved. He was the one that introduced the idea of incorporating treasure hunt style formats into their activities.

Eventually, the group of five grew to about a dozen within the first few years and with each new member, new ideas were born on how to not just help the society grow, but also to broaden it’s efforts and to begin thinking larger. Each new member brought with them a new set of passions, knowledge and skills that contributed to the building of the society as a whole. Some had primitive survival skills while others could ice climb. Some were history buffs and others were archaeologists.

Now with a couple hundred members from around the world, they decided to think even bigger and to come out of the shadows, so to speak, to openly ‘recruit.’ However, that also unintentionally brought about direct opposition. Organizations and individuals alike have surfaced with their own agendas. It turns out, if the people of the world are no longer enslaved to their screens, advertisers and social engineers begin to lose their power over them (and their money.) Additionally, the modern grave robbers and illegal treasure hunters of the world do not want attention brought to their trade or the connections they might have with the Black Market. These ‘enemies’ of the QAS may attempt to thwart their efforts…but the society is growing…and growing fast!
